November 29th 2019, 7:30 pm at St. Mark’s Anglican Church, Qualicum Beach
December 1st 2019, 7:30 pm at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Nanaimo

In keeping with recent practice the Island Consort Chamber Choir, directed by Bruce Farquharson, presents a fall program of great emotional depth and variety. “Music From the Heart” begins with two Early Music works by Josquin des Prez and Charpentier followed by 19th Century pieces by Bruckner and Schubert. The rest of the program comprises contemporary material ending with a nod to Christmas by way of three traditional carols.

The 22-voice ensemble will be accompanied by organist Jenny Vincent, violinist Karl Rainer, and cellist Hannah Wilson on Charpentier’s “Dixit Dominus”, and Ms. Wilson will also provide solo cello accompaniment for Canadian composer, Colin Eatock’s “Out of My Deeper Heart”. Ms. Vincent will provide piano accompaniment for Schubert’s “Gott Ist Mein Hirt” (23rd Psalm) and for Noel Gay’s “Leaning On A Lamppost”. The choir will highlight pieces by contemporary composers, Americans, Eric Whitacre and Ivo Antognini, Latvian, Erics Esenvalds, and Lithuanian, Giedrius Svilainis. Also on the program is Ward Swingle’s arrangement of “L’Amour de Moi”, Farquharson’s arrangement of “Cavatina” – from the soundtrack of the movie, The Deerhunter, and Charlie Chaplin’s “Smile”.

With a broad variety and great musicality, this program is sure to captivate and entertain. The Island Consort is dedicated to performing with quality and expression, and to sharing the love of choral repertoire with as wide an audience as possible.
